GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 749313
Use different icon when checking internet access the first time
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:07:41 UTC
Currently, we use the same icon when first connecting to the internet and the connectivity script is running, and when internet access was available, but got lost. The wifi icon + "?" makes me think that there's a problem with my internet connection, not that it's in the process of checking for connectivity. MacOS X shows an animated wifi icon when connecting.
Makes sense to me. There are already "acquiring" versions of the network icons that we can use: https://git.gnome.org/browse/adwaita-icon-theme/plain/Adwaita/scalable/status/network-wireless-acquiring-symbolic.svg https://git.gnome.org/browse/adwaita-icon-theme/plain/Adwaita/scalable/status/network-wired-acquiring-symbolic.svg The status string in the system menu should probably say "Connecting" or, if bug 751377 is fixed, "Connecting to <network name>".
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
