During the Gnome 3.14 -> 3.16, the system tray has disappeared. And with it an easy way how to pause/resume the Rhythmbox (RB)  playback.

Before, it took one mouse motion and two clicks to start/stop playback.
Now I have to get to the RB windows and click the appropriate button. Although it takes the same amount of clicks, then I have to go back to my work. This can be quite tricky (imagine returning to one of many terminal windows in different workspace). Therefore, the new RB controls are much more distracting from work.

If the notification entry can contain at least the play/pause button, then I strongly suggest to reintroduce it there. This would restore the quick and unobtrusive control of the player.

The notification features that rhythmbox uses for this are no longer available in gnome-shell, so there isn't much we can do.  The current plan appears to be to add dedicated media player controls to the shell.

There are several extensions available on extensions.gnome.org (search for 'mpris') that do this already.
