Description Que Quotion 2015-02-26 05:39:56 UTC
Affects 3.14(+?).

Steps to reproduce:

Open gedit;
Enable Preferences -> View -> Display line numbers;
Observe lack of background behind numbers (visible text, invisible background.
-May appear flat black without a compositor (ala #737986)
-Occasionally rendered correctly
-Always rendered correctly for SUID windows (gksu gedit)

I'm getting the same results with Adwatia and elementary themes.

Gedit does not output anything to terminal when affected (or otherwise).

Gedit is not the only affected program, slingshot-launcher, gnome-control-panel, and several others display missing backgrounds in certain sections of windows as well. The missing backgrounds occasionally are rendered, but only once per session (gnome-session)--usually on the first mapping of the affected window.

not observing that here

Looks like someone's fixed it since then.

It's gone as of 3.15.12.243.r42236.gac931e9 at least.

This was a real bug that really happened.

Closing this, then. Thanks for the update
