GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 743185
xterm interop problem with new OSC 6
Last modified: 2018-03-27 19:39:51 UTC
xterm 314 adds OSC 6 as complement to OSC 5 (which we don't implement atm), which however is already in use by us (and OSX terminal before us) for a different purpose, namely set-current-file-uri (as complement to OSC 7 set-current-directory-uri).
Oops. This sucks. I think the best would be if xterm reverted this change, or went for a different escape. Did you notify Thomas? Shall I?
You appear to have good working relations with him, so please do :-)
Thomas said he'll add another escape as a synonym for xterm's osc6, and if Apple released any official docs about their terminal he'd even consider deprecating his osc6 :) Btw what's the point in Mac's osc6? Does it use it for anything? For what? Are there any apps supporting it? Any plans of us ever using it? Or is it just a placeholder for possible future enhancements?
The only info I had on that was in the link in bug 675987 comment 9, https://superuser.com/questions/79972/set-the-title-of-the-terminal-window-to-the-current-directory/321733#321733 .
xterm-315 introduced OSC 106 as a synonym for its OSC 6.
Nothing to do here on the vte side; and we've decided to not implement OSC 106.
> and we've decided to not implement OSC 106. For the record: bug 722751.
