Description Sämy 2014-11-26 08:31:29 UTC
The keyring unlock dialog has the option "Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm logged in" checked by default.

If I do not want to automatically unlock a keyring I have to uncheck this option at each prompt. If I forget to untick it once the auto-unlock feature is activated. This is cumbersome.

On the other hand, if I want to automatially unlock a keyring I have to tick the checkbox once (in case it defaults to unchecked). If I happen to not check it I can still do it the next time.

This looks like the same issue as bug #725641 and several (!) reports on launchpad. UI bug that always tempts the unconscious user reduce their level of security is practically equally critical as a bug in a cryptographic algorithm.

I wish bugs of this type would not to stay open and unnoticed for so many years. Bug #725641 even has a patch. I would be very thankful if it gets reviewed.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-keyring/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
