Description nw9165-3201 2014-10-18 22:27:00 UTC
Dear Geary developers,

please add support for the new Google Gmail API for better Gmail integration in Geary (instead of IMAP).

Some links:

It would be much appreciated.

From the first page of the API docs:
> The Gmail API should not be used to replace IMAP for full-fledged email client access.

What would supporting this API get us?

The video tells me that this API allows web apps limited access to GMail without implementing an IMAP stack. Given that we're a desktop app needing full access to GMail that already has a full IMAP stack, I don't see how this helps us.

If I'm missing something, please explain what.

Here's Google's opinion on the matter:

"Note: The Gmail API should not be used to replace IMAP for full-fledged email client access. Instead, see IMAP and SMTP." -- https://developers.google.com/gmail/api/
