In the newly designed board, the lines that mark out the cells are blurry. This affects the overall appearance of the board - it doesn't look great.

It seems like the quality of the line rendering is dependent on the size of the grid. It is better at some sizes and worse at others.

For archiving, that’s the conclusion of the bug “[PATCHes] Use a DrawingArea for the board.”[1] and the patches in it.
