GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 734173
Corrupted image flashes upon login
Last modified: 2014-09-27 01:33:47 UTC
It is hard to verbally describe my problem, so I have attached a video of my issue. Basically, each and every time both GDM loads and also when I login, I am presented for a second or so with a corrupted image. The image itself is usually random, with bits of the previous session (as if it were a screenshot), and some aspects of the glitched image being bits and pieces of open applications. (it is hard to describe). Some information about my system, it is running Archlinx, on a Linux 3.15 kernel with xorg 1.16 and the open sourced radeon drivers for the radeon HD 6950. This issue showed up I believe with gnome 3.10, and has persisted ever since. The issue is the worst when no xorg.conf file is used, and instead the system figures out the configuration for itself. When a xorg.conf file is present detailing the monitor layout and resolution, the issue disappears (though login is still choppy). Also, with the fglrx drivers the issue is no present, though I am not sure if it is just due to the need for a xorg.conf file as stated above. Further, I tested the issue with the gnome-wayland session, and there was no graphical corruption upon login. It seems to be an X issue, perhaps with Xrandr.

I would like to restate that the image that shows up in completely random. Often times it shows a tweaked out version of my previous chrome tab from 2 days prior, or my spotify music from the previous day. I am honestly confused on how these images are getting stored
I would like to note that this issue still exists with Gnome 3.14, but only with X, the Gnome-Wayland variant does not express this issue.
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 737226 ***
You have this linked to an SNA issue, but from what I know SNA is an intel technology, and I am running full AMD hardware... is this still applicable?
I'd like to track this bug in one place. Please don't reopen. If it's not SNA, we'll figure it out. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 737226 ***
Ok, it just didn't seem like the same issue based on the information provided.
