While trying to modify a Google contact I got the following response from the server:

Invalid request URI or header, or unsupported nonstandard parameter: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<errors xmlns="http://schemas.google.com/g/2005">

  <code>invalid</code>
