GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 730530
facebook: App was mysteriously deleted
Last modified: 2014-10-17 16:07:10 UTC
Facebook chat through Empathy stopped working today. Upon closer examination GOA Facebook entry has this "Credentials have expired" notice. When trying to sign in again, Facebook shows an error titled "Error Accessing App" and message "We're sorry, but the application you're trying to use doesn't exist or has been disabled." It's happening on Arch Linux with goa 3.12.1. Apparently it's not built with an overridden FB client_id (https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk/PKGBUILD?h=packages/gnome-online-accounts) so it must be the default Gnome app.
It seems to affect all released versions, apparently Facebook app has been blocked / changed
Yes, I noticed this yesterday. Looks like the GNOME app on Facebook has disappeared as far as I can make out. I have no clue how this happened. I know for a fact that this was working a few days ago, and two days back I was asked by Facebook to change my password, which I did. In the worst case we will have to create a new app, replace the keys and carry on.
IIRC I am the one who created the facebook app. Interesting coincidence? a few days ago facebook asked me to change my password as well, and now that app is gone. I still see other apps I was administrating though. Facebook is about to close their XMPP access anyway, that service is already deprecated [1]. On ubuntu I can still connect atm though, so their app didn't get removed. I guess GNOME upstream have to create a new one... [1] https://developers.facebook.com/docs/chat/

*** Bug 730416 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
After talking to Facebook, it turns out that the GNOME app got flagged by their automated systems. I don't know the reasons for that, yet.
Our appeal was upheld and the app has been restored. I still don't know the reason behind all this, though.

This has happened again. Filing an appeal.
I wonder if they could whitelist us, or at least explain why this is happening. We have to be more reliable than this....
As of now it is working again, but I have heard no explanation from FB for disabling us in the first place.
