1) Create a new image 2) Make multiple layers 3) Select the first layer 4) hold shift (or Ctrl) and click the last layer Expected behaviour: All layers in the range are selected Actual behaviour: Only one layer is selected
I thought we had a bug about this already, if somebody finds it, please dedup.

Just created an account to +1 this. I can't believe this wasn't required before... I have no idea of the code underneath but a probably fast solution will be to extract the "linking" behavior so that this kind of selection just works as if those selected layers would have been linked together. To further improve ux in this regard: - select all/none button in layers view - "select through" option in selection tool to select all layers under the cursor - bonus: layer selection tab to see what was selected and allow you to remove and store selection (this goes in the direction of creating multple named linking groups)
Mitch, this feature is probably in the top list for Aryeom and would make her life much easier. You told me at LGM that there was already some beginning of (broken?) code for this. Could you tell me where exactly? I could not find any. Which file should I look into if I want to implement this? Thanks.
Yes, this could be very useful. In photoshop, selected layers can also be grouped by hitting a short-cut key, "Shift + G" I think. Regards.
Hi Joseph, We have opened a new mailing list dedicated to discuss GUI and make further design decisions: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-gui-list As a first topic, I just started to discuss about this feature, also discussing your proposed alternative (bug 755972): https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-gui-list/2015-October/msg00003.html You are much welcome to subscribe to this mailing list and come discuss with us.
its just luck i found this report, because i thought to post again something on the developers mailing list. (in the hope that i need no help from the staff to get my enhancements posted) what i wanted to write: somehow strange that we can't select multiple layers. Possible applications: - put selected layers into a folder (press simply the folder icon or context menu-put into folder) - create a new canvas with this layers - hide/unhide, link/unlink multi. layers - lock transparency / opaque multi. layers - layer mode, opacity multi. layers - delete, copy, move, ect multi. layers
I hope this features will be available in version 2.9.6 above. It really speed up and make us at ease especially if we work on many layers. I frequently use a layer group to make my works easier to handle. Yet, I need to select one by one layer to put into the layer group. In addition, it will be a beautiful thing if we can apply effect using layer mode (such as lighten, multiply etc) for the group.
