GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 728175
Show more information about network printers
Last modified: 2014-11-10 11:06:00 UTC
I've been totally unable to add the printer next to my office to my laptop using the control center: all I have is a list of printer models, which are often duplicated, while what I need is the name/description of the printer. See attached screenshot. I think the current UI only works for very small networks; and even there, if you have twice the same printer, which is not uncommon, you cannot tell which one is which until you have printed something.

I'm fairly certain this is already fixed in GNOME 3.12, at least partially. The location of printers is supposed to be shown underneath the name. I think that if there is no location information, we should probably show some other identifying information though, such as an IP address.
Hi Milan, as Bastien wrote, this should be fixed in GNOME 3.12. You can find more info in the bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=693183. Regards Marek
