GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 728172
Workspace on second monitor is not visible on switcher when workspace-only-on-primary is false
Last modified: 2014-04-15 13:42:49 UTC
Setting gsettings set org.gnome.shell.overrides workspaces-only-on-primary false Does not change behaviour of workspace switcher in overview mode. Only primary workspace in visible. All monitors should appear in the workspace switcher/pager in this case! People have this problem for at least two years now (cf. http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1973027.html) and there is still no fix in Gnome for it!? One extension was written a year ago, where one of its function was to fix this very BUG. The extension is called Multiple Monitor Panels (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/323/multiple-monitor-panels/). BUT, it is not maintained and STOPPED working for 3.8 and 3.10. Please fix this bug. Gnome is completely unusable with such a buggy and limited support of Multiple Monitor setups. Also compare with this wiki page: https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeShell/DesignerPlayground/MultipleMonitors where people discuss overall strategy for Multiple Monitors. However, regardless of final strategy, current situation is a clear BUG.
Created attachment 274254 [details] This is screenshot of current vs desired behaviour Without second monitor being displayed in the workspace switcher, one does not have any idea what is going on on the other monitor. The overview mode is not fulfilling its role as an "overview".
(In reply to comment #1) > This is screenshot of current vs desired behaviour Except that the "desired behavior" does not work for non-horizontal layouts (vertically stashed monitors, L-shape). This is a known bug, but it is still blocking on design - so far, nobody has come up with a good one. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 652580 ***
