Description Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-02-26 00:47:46 UTC
well better yet just get rid of the foobar clock and replace it with an
applet, but in the event that doesn't happen the gnome-pim options
(today, this week, this month) should be removed since gnome-pim isn't being
ported to gnome 2 (at least thats what it seems like from the dot plan).
Comment 1 Luis Villa 2002-02-26 22:57:28 UTC
Incredibly, this is not a duplicate. Since gnome-pim is not yet ported
(AFAICT) this pretty much needs to be done.
Comment 2 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-02-27 01:16:22 UTC
from the dot plan it looks like there is actually no plan to port it.
Probably cuz evolution will get ported and is much more powerful.
Comment 3 Luis Villa 2002-03-14 18:42:27 UTC
Hrm. Someone /is/ porting it now but I have no idea if it is going to
be ready in time or not. Panel-maint?
Comment 4 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-03-14 18:49:16 UTC
Even if gnome-pim is ported, i still think these should be removed.
There are plenty of pims out there (evolution, kde-pim, etc.). We
shouldn't be tying the panel to an applications (gnome-pim) that is
not neccessary for a complete environment.
Comment 5 Luis Villa 2002-03-15 01:09:59 UTC
Well, in an ideal world they would just call 'whatever calendar is
installed'; which might be evolution or might be gnome-pim. They /are/
a useful feature, and not everyone wants to install evo.
Comment 6 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-03-15 01:21:51 UTC
In a way isn't this discussion futile, since in the end the menu panel
will probably be removed anyway :)

Well here's a proposal, if gnome-pim is not install, these options
should not be in clock pull down menu. Nice compromise :)
Comment 7 Glynn Foster 2002-03-20 18:09:47 UTC
Agree, I think this is a somewhat urgent change.
Comment 8 Luis Villa 2002-03-20 19:24:20 UTC
If this is urgent... wow, we're fucked :) I can elevate about 100-200
bugs that are vastly more troubling to the user than this one. That
said, it /does/ have to happen before UI freeze, so I won't mark it
back down, but this is /extremely/ borderline.
Comment 9 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-03-20 19:33:34 UTC
Another solution to this problem is to just ditched menu bar clock
altogether and just use the clock applet see bug 72765. Don't know if
this will go over well though.

Comment 10 Glynn Foster 2002-03-21 13:57:29 UTC
Seth, Calum, Nils..any ideas on this?
Comment 11 John Fleck 2002-03-23 03:26:00 UTC
This has no effect on the panel docs. Removing "doc" keyword. (But
thanks to whoever added it so I could check - this is the right way to
do this.)
Comment 12 Calum Benson 2002-03-25 15:24:40 UTC
The gnome-pim options definitely need to go until they can be hooked
up to something-- don't really care whether they're just #ifdefed out
or the clock is replaced by the clock applet, but given the choice,
I'd prefer the latter. Having two almost-the-same-but-hey-not-quite
clocks available is just dumb, and I thought one of the big "look, we
took notice of the GNOME usabilty report" concerns that 2.0 was going
to address all along was that we were only going to have one clock
this time?!
Comment 13 Luis Villa 2002-03-28 15:06:40 UTC
What's the status here? snippet of discussion in #bugs:

---
<arvind> markmc,louie:any conclusion reached on 72064(foobar clock
should remove gnome-pim selections)
<louie> arvind: I don't know; it seems that is really the maintainer's
call.
<louie> arvind: FWIW, if you want to supply a patch to jumpstart
discussion, I'd suggest that (1) it remove the clock in favor of clock
applet and (2) make sure that the default menu panel include the clock
applet. If (2) doesn't happen, (1) is a bad idea.

Comment 14 Mark McLoughlin 2002-03-28 16:47:36 UTC
Okay, so I've removed the foobar clock and put the clock applet there
by default.

John: re-adding the doc keyword so you can see if *this* had an impact
on the docs
Comment 15 Luis Villa 2002-03-28 16:58:21 UTC
cc'ing jfleck as he's not likely to see a fixed bug otherwise.
Comment 16 John Fleck 2002-03-29 02:14:24 UTC
This'll require new screenshots. Reopening so it doesn't get lost,
changing subject line to request the one element that is left.
Comment 17 Mark McLoughlin 2002-03-29 15:00:22 UTC
John: I've created a help-docs component and made you owner ...

moving there
Comment 18 Luis Villa 2002-03-31 05:21:30 UTC
Adjusting the priority to reflect the current state of the bug.
Comment 19 John Fleck 2002-04-27 20:28:51 UTC
This is mooted by the move to using the Users Guide chapter for docs.
