Description jason.c.self 2014-03-01 17:49:08 UTC
This is for the Banshee 2.6.1 precompiled dmg install for Mac OS X 10.9 located at:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/binaries/mac/banshee/banshee-2.6.1.macosx.intel.dmg

After copying the Banshee.app to the Applications folder the following occurs.

When trying to launch the Banshee.app from the Launchpad nothing happens.

When trying to launch the Banshee terminal script in the terminal I receive the following output:

/Applications/Banshee.app/Contents/MacOS/Banshee ; exit;
/Applications/Banshee.app/Contents/MacOS/Banshee: line 141: /Users/selfyApplications/Banshee.app/Contents/Resources/bin/mono: No such file or directory
/Applications/Banshee.app/Contents/MacOS/Banshee: line 141: exec: /Users/selfyApplications/Banshee.app/Contents/Resources/bin/mono: cannot execute: No such file or directory

There appears to be a fault in the directory structure sensing as the "/Users/selfyApplications/" does not exist but the "/Users/selfy/Applications/" directory does exist. I have traced this to the "app-bundle-location" file located at "/Users/selfy/.config/banshee-1" that the Banshee.app generates as well which saves the directory as "/Users/selfyApplications/Banshee.app" which is incorrect for the same reason.

For what it's worth: this is the pathname error I get with 2.6.1

user@host:/Applications/Banshee.app/Contents/MacOS$ ./Banshee
Application bundle has moved. Adjusting bundle...
find: /Applications/Banshee.app/Contents/Contents/Resources/etc: No such file or directory
./Banshee: line 141: /Applications/Banshee.app/Contents/Contents/Resources/bin/mono: No such file or directory
./Banshee: line 141: exec: /Applications/Banshee.app/Contents/Contents/Resources/bin/mono: cannot execute: No such file or directory

Assigning this to my GSoC minion Stephen Sundermann who is hereby honor bound to declare war on mediocrity.

I think I've generated successfully a Mavericks-compatible DMG of Banshee from my Mavericks. It would be great if any (or all) of you can test it and provide feedback: http://www.mediafire.com/download/mg1hfj5n1rh69f8/Banshee.dmg
Comment 4 Stephan Sundermann 2015-07-07 01:02:08 UTC
Works fine, though video is broken and Now Playing is hidden when switching to it the first time.

Right, but that's a different bug (I mean, I doubt that bug was not present in the official DMG of Banshee 2.6.1 posted in http://banshee.fm/).
Comment 6 Miguel Costa 2015-08-19 09:07:48 UTC
I tried the Mavericks-compatible DMG of Banshee build of Aragoneses on a yosemite 10.10.5 and it ran fine. I've never used Banshee in the past, I'm testing it because I needed a Media Player with the option to rate my music, so I cannot imediately check if all is well.

Thank you

I tried the Mavericks-compatible DMG of Banshee 2.6.3 on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and so far the program launches. I clicked through some things but haven't tried any playback yet.

Good work Aragoneses!

Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect
reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project
to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the
responsibility for active development again.
See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
