I'm currently running 3.8.4 on Ubuntu 13.10.

While using xmpp, if I receive a new message notification in the Unity mail icon dropdown (top), when I click on it, the chat window does not show the new message and the title for that chat window has (-1) on it, which must indicate it's only displaying up to the (-1) message.

Did you report this to Unity's bugtracker and their window manager?
