GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 722499
Annoying default file-format
Last modified: 2014-01-18 16:09:46 UTC
Ever since the XCF-Format is force-fed to the user, using GIMP has become a matter of swearing and a usability nightmare. If I open a JPG, do some changes and want to save the file, I have to "export" it. There is almost never a need for me to use the XCF-format. I can't count the times where I clicked "Save" and it wanted to save the picture as XCF. But even if I "export" it, as it seems to be the preferred workflow of the developers who never used their own product, I am always asked if I don't want to save the picture as XCF and have to decline it. Can't there be some user choice on what behavior is wanted? Just save the opened picture - as it has been in earlier times - or the new way of having XCF as default. Or at least a way of saving to JPG (or whatever file format) in the XCF-saving dialog. The current state it really a pain to use. I have no interest in saving all pictures as an XCF and I think there are many more users who think so.
