It seems if I add an autofilter to a column which has many different options (haven't determined the exact number), the drop down box becomes very small (so small as to not be able to tell which one I'm selecting).

What version of Gnumeric?  What version of GTK+?

It looks like it might be this bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710749

I'll grab 1.12.9 and let you know if that fixes it.
