GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 721360
direct access to the applications grids
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:27:10 UTC
Having access to the applications grids require to pass through the overview, while it could be nice to have a mouse shortcut. Currently three steps long from a workspace: 1. go to the overview 2. press the grid button 3. select the appropriate view As a proposal, make the application grid accessible from the bottom left corner: 1. go to the grid corner 2. select the appropriate view
You can also use <Super>A
I like the idea of cutting out the extra step to get to the apps view. I'm not too sure about using the bottom-left as a hot corner though. With the Activities hot corner there's a visual indication that that corner belongs to the system - the corner is an extension of the activities button. With the apps view there is already a grid button - which isn't visually connected with the bottom-left corner.
@ Jasper, very handful, thanks! @ Allan, indeed, forget the bottom-left hot corner. I suggest to give the Activities hot corner the same effect as <Super>A when coming from an empty workspace. When coming from a workspace with opened windows, it would keep the same effect as now, eg <Super>AA. Also, when already in the overview, selecting an empty workspace would always lead to show apps grid. GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
