GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 714996
Restore the hide/show toolbar option (please)
Last modified: 2016-01-02 01:38:31 UTC
On my small laptop screen every square inch is precious. So most of time I used to work with evince toolbar hidden. Could you please restore the possibility to hide/show it (ideally in the right click menu). Thanks

Thanks for the report. Evince switched to GtkHeaderBar, which is not possible to do it anymore. Otherwise, you get the behaviour of the presentation screen.
I object! This is not the same as presentation screen, because presentation screen is fullscreen, but this is windowed. I very much prefer to be able to see the Gnome panel while I'm reading PDFs and this patch allows me to maximize the vertical screen space for the text while still displaying panel and titlebar of the window. I'm strongly for the inclusion of this feature in Evince.
I am also strongly in favour of reinstating this feature. I often want to view documents in fullscreen on a small laptop display, and I find it very irritating that I can't make use of the full screen area for this. Since I can't even add buttons to it, the toolbar is currently 90% wasted space. Presentation mode is no good for me, because I want to be able to scroll and to view documents in dual page mode.
Fullscreen autohides the toolbar after some seconds. If it is not, you might be using an old Evince.
I'm sorry for the off-topic posts on #692969. This issue has been bugging me for ages, so I apologise for venting my frustration at you :-) I have tried installing evince 3.18.2 via ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging. I've tried switching to fullscreen mode, then scrolling for >10 seconds - the toolbar remains exactly where it is. I have tried enabling and disabling the left pane, as well as switching between single-page and dual mode. None of these things have any effect. I'm not sure what else to try at this point. Should I be reporting this to the Ubuntu package maintainers as an Ubuntu
-specific bug? (sorry, something went wrong as I was posting)
