---- Reported by geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-10-08 10:12:00 -0700 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 7617 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/7617 Searchable id: yorba-bug-7617 Original author: Javier Antonio Nisa Avila Original description: As the emails of a conversation are grouped for better reading. There should be the option to display first newest to oldest and oldest to newest. Currently only this the oldest to newest. Related issues: related to geary - Feature #4600: sort conversations from oldest to newest (Fixed) ---- Additional Comments From geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-11-07 21:02:00 -0800 ---- ### History #### #1 Updated by Charles Lindsay about 1 month ago * **Subject** changed from _Add Filter Email_ to _option to order emails in conversation viewer from newest to oldest_ * **Priority** changed from _Normal_ to _Low_ * **Target version** deleted (<strike>_0.5.0_</strike>) I've updated the title to reflect what I think you're asking for. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone ordering emails in a conversation from newest to oldest, and I suspect it would lead to confusion, especially as emails get marked read as you scroll. #### #2 Updated by Javier Antonio Nisa Avila about 1 month ago It is a minor development and I think all that is providing enriched user experience the product. That is the default filter indica but you can also filter so. #### #3 Updated by Jim Nelson about 1 month ago * **Status** changed from _Open_ to _Need Information_ Is this the way you want to read conversations? #### #4 Updated by Javier Antonio Nisa Avila about 1 month ago Must exist two ways, with a button to do the filter, or an option within the application options. #### #5 Updated by Petar Sredojevic 14 days ago > I don't think I've ever heard of anyone ordering emails in a conversation from newest to oldest This is poor UX, and this feature should be a must - it is my personal roadblock to using Geary. If your end-action of opening a conversation is to read or reply to an email, then you're looking for the newest email - if you're looking for the newest email to do anything, having that email at the bottom is the longest possible way of achieving your ultimate goal. #### #6 Updated by Petar Sredojevic 14 days ago * **Priority** changed from _Low_ to _Normal_ --- Bug imported by chaz@yorba.org 2013-11-21 20:24 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 7617 at http://redmine.yorba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7617 Unknown version " in product geary. Note: this bug is about changing the sorting of messages in a thread (in conversation viewer). Related: Bug 713654, which is about changing the sorting of conversations (in conversation list).
Geary now automatically scrolls to the first interesting (starred or unread) message when displaying a conversation, making scrolling a moot point, and operations like search and find should automatically zoom to the next matching message (Bug 778021). There might be an argument for making the conversation's sort order match that of the conversation list if the two are merged (Bug 714183), but that will still mean having only one UI for managing sort order, not two. I'd rather fix bugs like those above than add a sorting UI that duplicates what we need to add for the conversation list (Bug 713654), so marking this as wontfix, sorry.
