Original Redmine bug id: 5455
Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/5455
Searchable id: yorba-bug-5455
Original author: Jim Nelson
Original description:

The drop-down menus shouldn't list the Outbox as a destination.

We should decide how to list the special folders ([Gmail]/Spam,
[Gmail]/Drafts, etc.) It makes sense to list them as destinations, but perhaps
could be listed at the beginning of the menu, much as they are in the sidebar.

Listing them at the beginning sounds reasonable. It would be nice to have the
same order in the menus as in the sidebar.

The drop-down menus currently include these items:

$GearyOutbox$

$GearySearchFolder$

This doesn't seem right. This bug is slated for 0.5 but can't we fix this for
0.4 somehow, even if it means simply blacklisting the above entries from the
menus?

Adam, that's an unrelated bug (and a regression!) I filed a new ticket here:

Another problem is that the server's folder names appear in this list, not
Geary's special folder names, meaning that on Outlook.com (for example)
instead of "Sent Mail" users see "Sent", and instead of "Trash" they see
"Deleted".

Surprisingly, I noticed this problem only now (after 2 years I use geary regularly) and just because I saw the not translated folder name.

It would be nice if the dropdown list would take into account the folder/tag the selected message is located, in order to exclude it from the list.
Comment 2 Michael Gratton 2017-12-08 04:06:35 UTC
This seems to have been fixed at some point, maybe when we converted to using Popovers?
Comment 3 Federico Bruni 2017-12-08 09:17:23 UTC
What has been fixed exactly? I would say only this:

- the Outbox is not listed anymore

However other problems reported here are not fixed:

- in Gmail account I still see [Gmail]>Spam and the like in both label and folder lists
- if your locale is different from english, you'll notice that special folders are listed in english instead of localized names; also I have two folders that are listed either in english and in italian, these italian folders show up also below the labels in the sidebar, but they shouldn't (I had this problem some time ago and it was fixed, so looks like a regression?)

bug #714106 is related
Comment 4 Federico Bruni 2017-12-13 11:04:36 UTC
About [Gmail], I just found Bug #712902 - Don't show childless [Gmail] in Folders list. I guess that as soon as it's fixed in the folders list it will be fixed in the Move to menu as well, right?

Forget my last sentences. I've checked my webmail and I see that, for some reasons (I cannot remember), I have two extra custom folders (i.e. not set by the server) in italian - Archivio (Archive) and Inviata (Sent). I've now deleted them and let only the default ones. Everything works fine now.

So there's one open issue left specific of the Move to menu: special folders appear in english instead of localized language. I cannot find an open issue for this, but I remember it was reported.
I guess it's basically what Jim wrote above:

> Another problem is that the server's folder names appear in this list, not
> Geary's special folder names

I have two different dovecot accounts, hosted on different servers, but both use Roundcube as webmail. In the Settings>Folders you see the special folders: some cannot be unchecked, as they are defined by the server. Even if their name is localized, the server folder name is actually in english. But I can also add custom special folders, which I can name as I wish. So this explains why for my account 2 I have this list in Move to menu:

Archivio, Drafts, INBOX, Junk, Sent, Trash

Archivio was the folder created by me; the others are set by server.

In my account 1 there's also the Archive folder set by the server, so it's all english:

Archive, Drafts, INBOX, Sent, Spam, Trash

Mike, should I open a new ticket for this?
Or change it to new and update the title?
Comment 5 Michael Gratton 2017-12-14 01:00:17 UTC
Ah, I don't use GMail regularly so I didn't see that.

Bug 712902 may or may not fix [GMail] appearing, but I'm also considering removing the special mailboxes from these lists in favour of having high-level actions for them (i.e. Buttons on the toolbar) per Bug 789078.

I'll reopen this for the moment so the issue doesn't get lost.
Comment 6 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 13:25:17 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
