Set up a bluetooth phone/tablet capable of being used as a network device with the bluetooth wizard. Remove it. Set it up again and check it as being a network device - multiples entries in the system status menu appear.

Still an issue with gnome 3.12

Ok this is not happening again. My tablet is called 'Galaxy Tab', all I had to do was remove these files:

/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Galaxy\ Tab\ Network*

and I set up a Bluetooth connection again. This time, no duplicates were placed under that directory and, as a result, no duplicates in the Bluetooth menu.
