GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 709567
Don't automatically show non-forced and non-default subtitles
Last modified: 2013-10-07 16:36:06 UTC
When ripping (legally owned) Blu-Rays with a product like MakeMkv, I'm essentially making an easier to use backup of the entire movie. This means I end up with MKV with a lot of subtitle tracks, but in many cases none of them are default or forced subtitles. VLC correctly plays these files (i.e. leaves all subtitles turned off) but Totem doesn't - it defaults to picking an English subtitle, and in "Auto" mode still insists on displaying *something*. Since MKV at least is very specific and clear about how tracks in the container should be handled, Totem should respect this - picking a track only if it's the default, not just because it's there.
It's actually playbin that chooses which subtitles to display, not Totem. I believe that's a duplicate, and something likely fixed in GStreamer 1.2 (used in GNOME 3.10).
Did some prep work for that in 1.2, but didn't get around to implementing the bits needed in playbin yet. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 695968 ***
