I've had 0.88 previously installed, but uninstalled it with the 
uninstaller.  Dia 0.88 no longer appears amongst the installed programs in 
the "Add/Remove" panel.

To be certain, I removed dia's leftover registry entries (I've 
successfully done this many times when other uninstallers fail), deleted 
the remnant "C:/Program Files/Dia" folder, and rebooted the computer.

The problem remains.

I suppose the installer will be more robust in the future, but for now, 
knowledge on how to "hand fix" the problem will be sufficient.
