GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 706448
Shortcut <ALT> + O in Save As Dialog is not Unique
Last modified: 2015-07-17 01:36:59 UTC
Created attachment 252484 [details] Screenshot of the german Save As Dialog. The red circles are the both underlined "O"s if i press ALT Hi I have an German installation of Fedora 19. If i wanna save documents (for example in gedit), the shortcut for focusing the "places" (Orte in german) bar is not unique. So i have to press additional <arrow down> to get the focus on the places bar. I alwas navigate with the keyboard becaus its faster :). so its not a big thing but a little annoying ;). It would be cool if it could be changed. reproduce: (in an german desktop layout) - Open gedit - open the save as dialog with shift + ctrl + s - Press the ALT key. -> the 2 words i marked in the screenshot get underlined - Hold the ALT key an press O to focus the Places pannel. - Now press arrow down 1 times -> Nothing happens (i think the focus is on the wrong object) if i try to press alt + O two times here the same happens. if i press Arrow 2 times down the Places bar is marked. but i would exept (like in the english layout ctrl + P ) the first entry in the places panel is on focus.. Greetings
I does not realy know what the first underline O does. because nothing is focused if i press Alt + O? Maybe i m to stupid :) or its redundant on this part.
Thanks for catching this; it's quite a subtle bug. The first underline was for a "Save in _folder:" label ("In _Ordner speichern" in German), but due to the way the file chooser has evolved, it ended up pointing to a non-focusable widget. That's why it seemed redundant. I've removed the underline mnemonic altogether since it no longer makes sense. The translations should be updated in due time. This is fixed in the master branch in commit 354db1d.
This bug is still open with german loc..
We are no longer using Alt-O for the sidebar, since the Places/Orte label is gone.
