Description André Klapper 2013-07-18 10:12:53 UTC
gsettings commands on https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/3.8/power-closelid.html do not work anymore in GNOME 3.8.

$:andre\> gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power lid-close-ac-action blank
No such key 'lid-close-ac-action'
$:andre\>

Probably needs some changes in /etc/systemd/logind.conf now.
Comment 1 Kamil Páral 2013-07-24 14:16:49 UTC
Yes, you need to put HandleLidSwitch=ignore into /etc/systemd/logind.conf to achieve that functionality now.
Comment 2 Peter 2013-07-24 14:53:07 UTC
1. Allan Day has decided to remove this option from the UI with GNOME 3.0
2. Massive protest by community did't changed his mind
3. With GNOME 3.6 Systemd provided hooks for power-management related stuff
4. Feature get removed from dconf

Proposal:
Abandoning the option and the later removal of the feature was wrong. I would appreciate the return of this option and feature:
System Settings -> Power -> Automatic Suspend
[*] Suspend (Default)
[ ] Hibernate
[ ] Blank
[ ] Do nothing

An example code exists, which shows how to change this a runtime via dbus:

I disagree with the present opinions laid out there. Removing sane options and features make software unusable and displace users. The power-panel was nearly empty from 3.0 to 3.6, with 3.8 it was redesigned and received more options.

Peter: This bug report is about updating the user documentation to describe how to achieve things. It's not about general rants on design decisions or to discuss implementation details of some code changes, and you're free to disagree somewhere where it's not totally off-topic (for example on your own blog).
Comment 5 Peter 2013-07-24 16:14:36 UTC
Same as every time with GNOME.
Don't fix it. Remove something...
Comment 6 André Klapper 2013-07-27 18:24:27 UTC
halfline commented on http://blogs.gnome.org/aklapper/2013/07/24/fedora-19/ that

HandleLidSwitch=ignore in /etc/systemd/logind.conf will stop it from suspending when the lid is closed.
