I am trying to stick with gnome shell defaults in Debian. Until now this is fine, I only changed in advanced settings "dynamic workspaces" to false and "workspaces only on primary monitor" to false.

Concerning the application menu, I find it a bit annoying. My suggestions :
- Ctrl + super to go directly to application overview (not so important feature)
- default to a "recently used" category, instead of "all". Or at least, in the "all" category, put them first, on top. Because the "all" category has very low usability (nice feature)
- put menu to the left, in order to have less distance between the "application" button and the menu (quite important feature)
- make menu responsive : show apps belonging to a category when mouse moves over the category, even if we do not click on it (same behaviour as a menu actually). This is important because as we do not know by heart every applications and their corresponding category, when can look and focus on the icons while moving the mouse vertically over categories (quite important feature)
- find a trick to have titles fully visible when when drag the mouse over. Because what does those three following apps mean (sorry it is in french): "Gestionnaire de p...", "Gestionnaire de t..." and "Gestionnaire de t..." ? (the answer is something like package manager, xfce4 task manager and hamster time manager). (quite important feature).
