After getting a chat message (xmpp) in gnome-shell and pressing the chat bubble to open an empathy window, sometimes the unread message count is displayed incorrectly (see screenshot).

In the example I attached, it should actually be 3 unread I think. Also note that the empathy window shows up empty.

This used to work fine in former versions but seems to be horribly broken in 3.8, I often lose unread messages this way.

I can confirm seeing this bug in 3.8.4, this is only the second day of an X64, Gnomebuntu installation so its the default settings.
