While the original design for the 'expanded' collection was to reuse the same view and not be an overlay, for the sake of easier implementation it was changed for an overlay*

Currently, however, the expanded bubble uses a more compact view that doesn't align with the grid below, feeling very out of place. It would be nice to try to match the position of the grid below, as per the mockup.

This used to be the case, but bug 694215 broke it ...

I think this is being addressed as a part of Carlos's app picker work.
