GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 695210
Update installation guide
Last modified: 2021-06-09 20:47:36 UTC
With the cleanup of deprecated stuff, the install guide is a mess. In fact, it already is, being a bit-distro specific (Fedora). It also extensively makes use of libglade in examples, which is going to be replaced by GtkBuilder. The install guide source file is: docs/install-guide/C/planner-install-guide.xml The compiles result, needing update too is: http://live.gnome.org/Planner%20Installation%20Guide
Dependency version should also be centralized as much as possible. Currently, we have them in configure.ac, in README, and in the installation guide, leading to mismatches.
Can we somehow have the docs auto-updated from the configure.ac?
Yeah, should be doable for the install guide, so only the README would require manual update.
The README also needs manual update on each new release for the installation instructions anyway, so this is something we could live with I'd say. :)
2012, I installed a Fedora Code 17. I made the SQL stuff work. The user guide chapter 'Configuring a Planner database' was reality. I updated the git guide (not the wiki one). Is anyone interested? I cannot produce a simple patch. A lot changed since 2004. The file is 28 KB sized and the patch 56 KB. I have no long-lived URL at hand. Privately, I can send the file or communicate a transient URL. ---- At that time, I realized that the real installation guide is the INSTALL file we already have. `./configure && make && make install' It is a standard INSTALL file. It should be ours. The others should be thrown. They do not worth maintaining.
