GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 692572
Vertical view "Messages" column should use font size and color to distinguish
Last modified: 2015-11-04 16:54:58 UTC
If you switch to the vertical view in Evolution, you get to see the "Messages" column which displays the sender, time of dispatch and the subject of the e-mails. I think it's strange that the "Messages" column uses a fixed-width font to display the subject line. This is not pretty on the eyes and wastes a lot of useful space. As you can see in the second screenshot Microsoft Outlook 2013 doesn't do it like that. It uses font size to distinguish visually between sender and subject. It also displays the first line of the content with a gray font instead of the black font of the subject to distinguish between those. I think this last trick could work well for Evolution too. Keep the line showing the sender and time black and make the subject line a shade of gray. Don't use a fixed width font for the subject line to use space more efficiently.

Thanks for a bug report. The fixed font issue had been fixed within bug #683695, the message body preview (the first line) is not always possible, because it's not available in the evolution. I would also not use a light gray, it may not work well with some themes. I'm marking this as a duplicate of the fixed-font issue. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 683695 ***
