Description Allan Day 2012-11-14 18:36:16 UTC
Right now, the contents of the contact pane acts as a block which is center-aligned. If you make the contacts window large, you end up with a column of content in the middle of the pane.

After some thought, I think it would be better if this was left-aligned. Center alignment was supposed to avoid having a large amount of whitespace (or greyspace :) ) on the right of the contacts pane, but it looks a little odd and results in a disconnect between the list and the contacts pane.

I think we have to accept that there will be a lot of whitespace if the window is large, and go with left-alignment in order to keep the contact list and contact pane in close dialogue.

This has been fixed for 3.8.

Actually, it hasn't.

This one is easy to fix. It was like that initially, but I changed because of the whitespace. So you only need to convince me of it.

Maybe we could restrict the size of the window, make it of a fixed size ?

Well, you are always going to have whitespace. The only question is whether you have it on one side or both. Having the details hanging in the middle of the contact pane looks strange, and disconnects it from the list.

That would mean you couldn't maximise the window on some displays.
