Description Aleksander Morgado 2012-11-08 06:33:22 UTC
Whenever a modem is detected and exposed in MM/NM, nm-applet will check whether the modem is locked and it will try to unlock it; either with an already saved PIN for the same SIM ID, or asking the user with the PIN number. The idea is not bad, but only if we can reliably read the SIM ID every time; if we can't read it, we would be bugging the user with a PIN dialog every time the session starts.

Instead, nm-applet should only try to unlock the modem if "Mobile Broadband" gets enabled; or while directly selecting a connection profile.

For built-in modems, this bug indeed yields a SIM PIN dialog immediately after login. Very annoying.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being shut down in favor of a GitLab instance.
We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time.

If you still use NetworkManager and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a recent and supported version of NetworkManager, then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/

Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (workforce and time is unfortunately limited).
