GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 687068
Video out media-key doesn't work as expected
Last modified: 2013-01-12 22:49:52 UTC
When I press my video out media-key (Fn+F4) all I get is a 'p'. To actually change the video mode I have to hold down Fn+F4 for a second or so. Another way to achieve this would be to 'double press' (just like double click) the video out media-key. However, I always get an additional 'p'. For example: let's say I want to change the video mode while writing an e-mail in Evolution. I'm working on my external display, my notebook display is deactivated. When I just press my video out media-key all I get is a 'p' in the message I'm writing. When I hold down the key for a second or so the video mode changes to mirror view (I get the same output on both monitors) and I get a 'p' in my message. When I 'double press' the the video mode changes as well and I also get one 'p' (not two). It took me some time to find out that the media-key works at all. So at first I reported downstream that the media-key wouldn't work, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=684331 Please tell me if you need any additional information.
Your video out key is a shortcut for "Win+P" that's implemented in hardware. It's gnome-shell eating the "Win" part of the shortcut because that's what it uses to show the overview. Will be fixed by the patches in bug 643111. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 643111 ***
