GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 686752
Consider having Super+1,2,3 open corresponding dash favorite
Last modified: 2012-10-24 06:15:24 UTC
In Unity, pressing Super+1 open the first app in the launcher (Unity's left sidebar); Super+2 opens the second, etc. to Super+9. As a bonus, Shift+Super+1 opens a new window if that app is already open. Seeing as how Super+number keys don't currently do anything in GNOME Shell, we could definitely borrow this idea to open the corresponding apps in the dash. On the other hand, there are other things we could do with this keyboard shortcut: a. It could be an alternative to alt-tab (Super+1 would always switch you to the first app you have open, Super+2 to the second app you have open, etc.). b. We could use it for fancier window tiling. Since Super+Left tiles left, Super+Right tiles right, Super+1 could tile to the top left corner, Super+2 to the middle corner, etc. in a grid of 9 (or we could do just 1-4 if we want a smaller grid). (Unity uses Ctrl+Alt+numpad keys for this effect.)
