Description:
If galeon is using more than your physical RAM (ie: more than 30 tabs opened, lots of animations etc) it will crash even if there is enough free swap space. Not clear if it's a Galeon issue or a kernel one. Kernel 2.4.17 here, 256RAM, 512 swap, about 400megs swap available.
