Description Albert Hopkins 2012-10-13 00:40:30 UTC
I know this is a lot to ask, but consider the scenario:

* I create a file, in some application (say, take a screenshot). I know a file is created but I don't know where.
* I go into "Files" and click on "Recent" in Places.
* I see my file (most recently used).
* I don't know exactly where the file is, because it's not revealed in "Recent".
* I see the filename, it's "Screenshot from…"
* I wish to rename the file to something more memorable, say "Screenshot showing bug in Epiphany"
* F2 doesn't allow me to rename the file.
* Right clicking on the file doesn't give me a rename option.
* Right clicking on the file doesn't give me the option to "reveal in folder"

The only way to rename it in this circumstance is to right click on the file. go to "Properties", remember the location from "Properties", close the properties dialog, then browse t the folder revealed in Properties, assuming you can still remember the path of the folder.

It would be much much better if you could F2 or right-click→Rename straight from the "Recent Files" view. Or at the very lease have a "Reveal in Folder" option.

I know it's a lot to ask, but the current method is a lot of steps and prone to error, especially if you have a horrible memory like mine and can't remember the path you read in "Properties"

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
