GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 68559
oafd never dies
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: oaf Severity: major Version: 0.6.7 Synopsis: oafd never dies Bugzilla-Product: oaf Bugzilla-Component: general Description: oafd always seems to be running after Gnome exits, and when many users log in over the course of a few days, many instances will be running. It interferes with any gconf work, like the background image picker, or anything in the control center. Any reason why oafd would continue to be so flakey? ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2002-01-11 22:57 ------- The original reporter (msherman@stealthboy.dyndns.org) of this bug does not have an account here. Never dies or doesn't die for 1/2 hour? I believe that is the default...
No, it just never dies until oaf-slay is run. The general problem is that oafd will still be running from a previous session. When a user logs in, I think there are two oafd's running. Then the user tries to run Evolution and gets the "cannot find configuration database" error. Also, control center capplets do not start. The user will then do an oaf-slay, and everythint will work fine after that. So, basically, the oaf-slay command _must_ be run every time a user logs in in order for anything to work properly. This has been happening for months now.
Reassigning bonobo-activation bugs to michael.
