Make file transfer progress inline

Currently we use a floating but non-modal window to display file transfer progress. I don't think anyone is really happy about that. There has been a move in the last few years to try to address this problem in web browsers and file browsers. One approach is to have a transfers bar or menu of some kind. Another approach is to have file transfers shown inline (as in OS X Mountain Lion).
I like the idea of moving the transfers inline, e.g. in a similar pane like the one displayed at the top of the trash (with empty trash and restore trash).

I don't have much of a problem with how it is currently, but could someone post a screenshot of systems which use other approaches so people can see the visual pros/cons of both approaches?
