GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 679562
Measure tool: saveable preset parameters
Last modified: 2018-05-24 13:15:21 UTC
How to reproduce: 1. Open measure tool (press M). 2. Open measure tool options window. 3. Click 'Use info window'. 4. Use the measure tool on the canvas. 5. In the measure tools options click on diskette to save tool preset. This should happen: It should be able to save and load some or all important parameters of the measure tool: pivot point, distance, angle, width, height. This would ease comparing distances and angles in different images, for instance in the bug reports #160428 and #676338. This actually happens: Only the option to use the info window is stored. It needs more mouseclicks to load the preset with that one parameter than simply clicking the parameters checkbox. It happens always.
The "Use info window" option can be saved from the Preferences > "Tool Options" > "Save tool options on exit". Tool presets have more of an interest for tools where you want to save several complicated variations. Clearly here it feels a little silly to even show the preset buttons (but that must be generic buttons for all tool options, so should we make exceptions?). This said, I agree that the Measure tool UI would benefit from some GUI improvements to make it a little more useful. This would require some use case study and specification.
