user@comp:~$ rhythmbox-client --no-start --print-playing-format "%tN – %te / %td"
results in UI popping up on the desktop.

In case it matters, the above behavior ('--no-start' having no effect) is observed on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit

Also a problem is that man pages still mention '--hide' option that apparently has been deprecated.
