Description Pander 2012-06-15 17:44:54 UTC
Please offer GNOME session properties (gnome-session-properties) under the System caption. In older versions of GNOME this was easily accessible, now not anymore.

Offering this will allow users to easily configure GNOME startup application preferences from a place where all configuration can be controlled.

[Please don't use components marked as obsolete. Thanks.]

Same on Fedora 17.

I think vino-preferences dialog and tracker-preferences dialog should also be under System Settings thus leaving only third-party GUI settings software under the "Other" Application Menu.
Comment 6 Matthias Clasen 2012-12-05 00:34:20 UTC
See https://live.gnome.org/Design/SystemSettings/Sharing for vino
and https://live.gnome.org/Design/SystemSettings/Search for tracker

Both coming to GNOME 3.8

I know that Fedora also had a bug against this (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=702478). I have read the ratiocination for this (https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-session/commit/?id=84a733203e076142a960005eaf0ac602521470fb). Is some or all of this functionality, still, intended to be incorporated to gnome-control-center?
Comment 8 Luis Henrique Mello 2014-04-25 09:38:47 UTC
I guess this is obsolete... tweak-tool has incorporated gnome-session-properties' functionality.

Indeed, thanks for the notice.

What is the command to start the tweak-tool? In which package is it shipped?

The package is usually called gnome-tweak-tool on most distributions. Just type 'tweak' on the search bar and you'll get it. Now there's a bar called 'Startup Applications' where you can setup programs to run at the start of gnome-session ;)
Comment 12 webmaster 2014-06-29 07:43:31 UTC
the functionality in the tweak tool is nowhere near as convenient as gnome-session-properties
specifically, the functionality to deactivate and reactivate programs and services is missing. Also, tweak tool does not show as many services as gnome-session-properties (however this may be intentional). Until tweak tool can provide the same functionality, the demand for gnome-session-properties will remain (as is obvious by the many bug reports across many distributions).

Then file bugs against gnome-tweak-tool.
