I think it might be better to assume the sidebar is available. The current
design doesn't really work without it. And this is consistent with the
file chooser.

The patch looks fine, but I'm not completely sold on this, since all the entries in the sidebar are somehow accessible by normally browsing trough folders.
Going forward, I can see how this might become an issue if we start adding different things to the sidebar, though. Is that a better rationale for why this is needed?
