Created attachment 213944 [details]
Screenshot of on screen keyboard being used.

Gimp will not accept input into the text input field. The physical keyboard work fine but the Gimp will not accept any input into the text box area using the on screen keyboard (OSK) with mouse clicks on any of the OSK keys. See attachment.

Works for me on Windows XP.
Comment 2 Max Mustermann 2012-10-20 10:08:19 UTC
Confirming this for GIMP 2.8.2 on Win7, 32 bit and the native GIMP build on Mac.
The on canvas text field doesn't react on the onscreen keyboard input, but the text editor does.

A workaround:
1. Before creating the textbox check 'Use editor' in the Text tool options dialog.
2. Create your textbox. An editor window will also appear.
3. Click into the editor window text field.
4. Type your text with the onscreen keyboard.

Works fine with the GNOME 3 (gnome-shell?) onscreen keyboard.

Sven, can you run that with GIMP_DEBUG=key-events and check if any key events
are arriving at all?

This problem is still occurring in 2.8.14 on OS X 10.11. Using the editor is the only way to capture input from the on-screen keyboard.
