GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 675063
Messy characters in nicknames for Jabber
Last modified: 2012-05-01 08:05:53 UTC
When I set a nickname "乱码" for a contact, it will always be converted to be like "乱码". Pidgin is okay. Empathy 3.4.1
I just tested and it worked for me (with a gabble contact), what type of contact is it in your case (gmail, msn…) ?

Well. More info: not only GTalk, but a Jabber account on another website, also bad characters. e.g.: "水群" will be converted to "水群"
Could you please attach dbus-monitor logs when setting your nickame?
Created attachment 213151 [details] logs from dbus-monitor Logs from dbus-monitor when set a nickname for contacts. It may contain some personal contents. Here it seems OK. But after I re-login, it will be converted. But Pidgin's are OK.
Looks like Empathy is passing the right alias to Telepathy: interface=org.freedesktop.Telepathy.Connection.Interface.Aliasing; member=SetAliases array [ dict entry( uint32 18 string "胡锦鑫" ) ] Could be a telepathy-gabble bug, please report to bugs.freedesktop.org.
