This would be a great way to provide profile pictures for contacts that are missing them.

Gravatar images should be included in the profile picture chooser, if we do pull them.

See bug 525027 for more info.

Turns out gravatar has some decent fallback support too, so apart from custom identity, it provides what bug 525027 needs for free. I'm totally loving the retro pixel avatars:

Note that Gnome Contacts won't need to do anything special for this if/when we fix bug #655116. So maybe this should just be marked as a dupe?

Are you planning to work in that, cause if folks fixed we don't need to do it.

I don't think anyone has immediate plans to work on it. But if you're interested, we'd be happy to review and merge patches for Folks. That seems like a more-appropriate place for it, so all applications show the gravatars as appropriate, not just Gnome Contacts.

Makes sense. I'm chewing on this problem at the moment... see: https://live.gnome.org/GnomeOS/Design/Whiteboards/Avatars

Closing as a dup of bug #655116 as this should be done in Folks so Empathy
could use them as well.
