See attached screenshot - the window button should have a plain white background in high contrast mode. As it is it retains the background from the default theme.

Yeah; I believe this is a bit tricky to fix for how the colors for the button (bg/fg/shadow) are fetched. It looks like some of those are guessed from the GTK theme, others are specified as symbolic color names in the CSS and others are hardcoded in the WM theme itself.
Lapo, can you look at this?

Problem is that we lack a proper wm theme for highcontrast and it's using adwaita which is not really meant for that.

A highcontrast WM theme consistent with the GTK one has now been pushed to master; please open new bugs for any issues with it.
