GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 671692
Desktop "locks" immediately after login
Last modified: 2012-03-09 10:55:14 UTC
Issue: After logging in, gdm briefly displays desktop (on which you can't do anything however), then immediately seems to lock the screen. (Just as would happen if you clicked "Lock Screen" -- it "blanks" the title bar and presents you with a password prompt. I'm not sure on the reproducibility yet, but my it seems to occur when a laptop is started up after dying (e.g. when the adapter is disconnected). My guess is that there is some record of the system being in a locked state before it died that is restored once you log in, immediately relocking the screen, but I don't know enough about the system. I'll attach `/var/log/messages | grep gnome-session` as I think that should have some information. Also note that I have the "Lock Screen After: Screen turns off" option enabled under Screen settings. I have not tried letting my laptop die with that setting disabled. Versions: [james@fractal ~]$ gdmflexiserver --command VERSION GDM 3.2.1.1 [james@fractal ~]$ uname -a Linux localhost 3.2.7-1.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Feb 21 01:40:47 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Please let me know if you need any more logs

A few clarifications: -- I end up having to enter my password twice, in case that wasn't clear. -- The time between initially entering my password and logging in, and then being presented with the second login prompt is about 10-15 seconds. -- By "title bar" I mean the top panel that displays "Activities", the date, status icons and the logged in user's name. -- This is not a one-time issue, but rather has happened (I believe) every time I've logged in after restarting my laptop after it died.
