GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 669075
Calendar: Day names are not according to format settings but to language settings
Last modified: 2012-01-31 13:56:33 UTC
In GnomeShell's Callendar "applet": While other month names and day names follow regional settings, the table column header (day names' first letters) does not. See attached screenshot: Úterý (Tuesday in Czech) is OK. Leden (January in Czech is OK. but table's header shows "M T W T F S S" (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, ...) but it should display "P Ú S Č P S N" (or eventually mostly used "Po Út St Čt Pá So Ne") (Pondělí, Úterý, Středa, ...)

You know, the attached screenshot doesn't show the problem... but we can trust you it happens. ;-) The problem is likely that the translation is missing for your language. But the translation is available in the PO file (and has been since at least September): http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/tree/po/cs.po#n331 What version of the Shell are you using?
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/commit/?id=f3e687eac8356420fe887f578ce610b51ae25678 made this properly translatable and http://l10n.gnome.org/POT/gnome-shell.master/gnome-shell.master.cs.po also shows Czech translations. Running an up-to-date Fedora 16, I get correct output for Czech. Need more information about your version and distribution.

I am using Fedora 16 with up to date updates. I am also using several extensions from extensions.gnome.org: Remove Accessibility, Frippery Move Clock, Remove User Name, Alternative Status Menu, Remove Panel App Menu, Windows Alt Tab, Frippery Bottom Panel, Frippery Static Workspaces, Activities Button Text, Evil Status Icon Forever, Force Quit, Removable Drive Menu, Applications Menu, NetMonitor Lite, Show Desktop Button I guess the problem is this: I have set language to English but formats to Czech. While month names and day names follows format region, day letters probably follow language region. This should probably be changed. While both can be seen logical, the date-format settings I see closer (thats also why I see "Úterý" and not "Tuesday" in the applet, correct?) Why the screenshot does not show the problem? I clearly see "M T W T F S S" on it...

Same results as in your screenshot with these settings.
I guess the problem is simply that day names are translated like normal UI strings, i.e. they're not considered as format strings at all.(In reply to comment #5) > Why the screenshot does not show the problem? I clearly see > "M T W T F S S" on it... Sorry, I was looking for two-letter abbreviations you get in the right part of the calendar.
